Why UX matters

3rd November 2024

Many I know in my industry don't want to get anywhere near software UX design. I think their aversion is misguided, and it's actually one of the most important parts of a software product.

I avoid products that are frustrating to use, no matter how many features it has. I would rather pay for a beautifully designed and thought-out product with fewer features, than use a messily presented one with all the features (nearly every time). As long as the experience is excellent, it doesn't matter to me if actually behind the scenes, the backend is a complete mess, written in Cobol and Fortran, running on a bare metal Linux box in someone's garage.

Excellent products get used and shared, and that is why I think more in my industry should care.
